Synopsis: In Queens, New York, Flushing Meadows–Corona Park was the scenario in which Robert Moses staged two World’s Fairs, meant to showcase mid-century’s optimism in U.S. style
progress and modernization as major highways for global unity. To make way for the fairgrounds, the Flushing River—once one of New York’s major waterways—was buried. Today, the site reveals itself as less a monument to the future than a record of erasures. Polluted waters, abandoned fair structures and ongoing development projects point towards unresolved—and unofficial—histories of power and planning.
